The School Garden

Earlier this year all the classes planted pumpkin seeds.  The little plants were planted out in the class vegetable beds and the plants grew bigger and bigger spreading all over the raised beds and onto the grass! Tiny pumpkins appeared and they quickly changed from pea size to orange size to looking like lovely orange footballs.  We harvested a bumper crop of pumpkins in the Autumn and the classes used them for maths work before roasting them and enjoying tasty delicious pumpkins.

Everything is growing fast in the school garden:  strawberries, potatoes, peas and lettuce.  The children are enjoying eating strawberries and peas.  Soon it will be time to dig up the potatoes and decide how to cook them – maybe potato wedges, potato salad, chips….who knows!

Year 3 are hoping to use the lettuce in their sandwiches.

We are planning to plant some sweetcorn plants and will look forward to eating delicious corn, as well as some juicy apples in the Autumn.
